
Maricopa County Arizona is often in the news as Joe Arpaio, the county sheriff, goes about his business. In this case we note an assassination attempt was in the making. It appears that police surveillance was able to detect and preempt the plot before it could be executed. We believe that more information on this situation will be forthcoming. When county officials are threatened by obvious criminal elements, how much different is the US than Mexico where every day is another day of war between gangs and elected officials.
